THE OVER THE HILL GANG VOLKSSPORT CLUB MEETING
September 27, 2006
Held at Diamond Jim’s Restaurant, Federal Way, Washington
CALL TO ORDER:
Ken Grieser, club treasurer, called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Meeting was held at Diamond Jim’s Restaurant in Federal Way, WA. Nineteen members and 2 visitors were in attendance.
WELCOME:
We welcomed visitors Ron and Laura Thompson.
MINUTES:
Minutes were approved as submitted.
TREASURERS REPORT:
Treasurer Ken Grieser reported that the checkbook balance to date is $4,405.32. There are no outstanding bills.
REPORTS:
KENT YRE: Skip Probst -Walkers to date: 97
DUPONT YRE: Kathryn Kirkpatrick- (Aug. 23 – Sept. 26) – 9 walkers, 3 bikes
JUNEAU YRE: – no report
SANCTIONED EVENTS: Bob and Betty Hellers, trailmasters, and all the workers for the August 26 event at Roegner Park, Auburn, were thanked. Final action report for that walk is as follows:
Walkers – 135 (credit), 54 (free) Total – 189
Gross receipts – $72 (donations), $105 (sales), $343 (registration) Total – $520
Cost – $376.60 Profit – $143.40
SALES: Alicia Maxcy reported that she has club shirts, event and distance books for sale.
MEMBERSHIP: A motion was made, seconded and passed to make Paul James an honorary member. He is doing a great job as our Web Master.
Marianne Bastin reported a total of 60 paid members, 3 honorary, 3 lifetime for a total of 66. As of Sept. 25, 2 more families have withdrawn and 4 families were dropped from membership due to failure to respond after several reminders to pay dues. This results in a loss of 11 members. The Freeman family added 2 members, Mathew & Alyssa Twaites.
SICKNESS & SYMPATHY:
Joan Grieser reported that no cards were sent since last meeting.
ESVA REPORT:
Carol Walsh reported that there will be a vote at this meeting on whether to keep open or close the ESVA office.
A motion was made, seconded and passed unanimously to recommend that the ESVA office be closed to save money.
A motion was made, seconded and passed unanimously to recommend that the Pathfinder be professionally produced.
Bob Hellers will take both of these recommendations to the ESVA meeting.
AVA Checkpoint:
None published since last meeting.
OLD BUSINESS:
Girl Scout walk – Bob & Betty Hellers and Diane Wagner will help Ken & Joan Grieser, trailmasters, with this event.
Christmas Party – Carol Walsh asked that instead of buying gifts for members at the Christmas party if we could use the money to provide a basket of goodies to a family in need. The consensus of those present was that this is what we would like to do. Carol and Marilyn Viola will work on this project. The date of the Christmas party is tentatively set for Dec. 10.
Maple Valley walk – A year-round event at the Maple Valley site has been sanctioned and will begin Jan. 1, 2007. Plans are going ahead for a 2-day event at the same site to be held in August 2007 and take the place of the Roegner Park, Auburn event. It is possible to have 5km, 10km and 20km walks on different paths.
NEW BUSINESS:
There was none.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Dorothy Bahr mentioned that the Sea-Tac Volkssports Club needs volunteers to help with their walks on October 14 & 15 at the Satsop Development Park.
Dorothy Blackmun handed out information about the 2006 Governor’s Community Health Bowl. Visit www.whf.org for more information.
Carol & Larry Walsh and Bob Hellers all spoke of how the ESVA booth, Sept. 11 & 12, at the Puyallup Fair was a great success. Carol, Larry, Bob, Ken & Joan Grieser and Dorothy Blackmun were volunteers from TOTHG who helped members from other Volkssport clubs pass out 850 bags of donated items from Harborstone Credit Union, Washington Health Foundation and others.
A participant at the Whidby Island event gave a check for $25.00 for TOTHG to Bill Stewart. It was given in appreciation for the great walk/bike event at Dupont last spring.

November – HAPPY THANKSGIVING – no meeting
December – Christmas Party tentatively planned for Sunday, Dec. 10 at Coco’s Restaurant (see above for location)
