August 23rd 2006 Meeting Minutes

THE OVER THE HILL GANG VOLKSSPORT CLUB MEETING

August 23, 2006

Held at Diamond Jim’s Restaurant, Federal Way, Washington

CALL TO ORDER:
Diane Wagner, newly elected club president, called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m.  Meeting was held at Diamond Jim’s Restaurant in Federal Way, WA.  Thirteen members attended.

WELCOME:
Skip Probst and Steve Mackey were thanked for their service as club officers for the past two years.  Ken Grieser and Bill Stewart were thanked for returning as officers for another two years.

MINUTES:
Minutes were approved as submitted.

CORRESPONDENCE:
Alicia Maxcy shared pictures of her and Jack’s first great-grandchild, a little girl.
Debbie Connell announced that she has achieved 10,000 km.
Carol Walsh helped the Daffodil Valley Volksport Club win a NW Region AVA award for publicity.

REPORTS:
KENT YRE: Dixie Inabnit-Walkers to date: 88
DUPONT YRE: no report
JUNEAU YRE: Walkers to date: 74
SALES: Alicia Maxcy reported that she has ordered 200 award patches for the Juneau, AK walk.  Club polo shirts are available for purchase.
MEMBERSHIP: Marianne Bastin reported that she sent an e-mail to all members who have not paid their club dues. The response has been slow. Another reminder will be e-mailed next week.  It is requested that members inform Marianne when changes occur in their address/phone/e-mail so the roster can be kept up-to-date.  A new roster will be issued in late September.
Membership is as follows:  47  paid
2  honorary
3  lifetime
                                         52  total membership
Two members have indicated that they will withdraw.  Fourteen families have not yet paid which consists of 23 members.
SICKNESS & SYMPATHY:
Joan Grieser reported that she sent a sympathy card to Dorothy Blackmun for the death of her father and a get well card to Marianne Bastin who had foot surgery.

ESVA REPORT:
A walk at NW Trek is planned for November 18/19 to take the place of the February walk that was cancelled due to weather.  TOTHG club will decide at the next meeting how we will help.  A moose patch award will be offered for the February 2007 NW Trek walk in honor of the male moose that lost his life in the February 2006 wind storm.

Bill Stewart will serve as the Publicity Committee Chairman.
Carol Walsh has arranged for a free booth at the Western Washington Fair for 2 days.  Volkssport information will be available.
Next ESVA meeting will be October 28, in Woodland, WA.

AVA Checkpoint:
The AVA National Executive Council Walks, September 30 – October 1, will be held in Edmonds, WA.  The Council will meet on Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Edmonds Harbor Inn.  Walkers are welcome to attend the meeting.
To satisfy insurance requirements, start cards for children under 18 years should be filled out by printing the child’s name with the parent signing on the signature line followed by (parent).

OLD BUSINESS:
Joan Grieser reported that help might be needed to mark trail for the Girl Scout Walk on October 8.
Bob and Betty Hellers announced that everything is ready for the Roegner Park event in Auburn on August 26.  Trails will be marked at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 25.
At the last Regional Conference Curt Myron announced his intention to run for AVA president.

NEW BUSINESS:
Vice President, Bill Stewart, will preside at the September meeting, as Diane Wagner will be traveling.
No date, location or committee has been chosen for the club Christmas party.  This will be addressed at the September meeting.
The club event planned for October 21, 2006 in Maple Valley will have to be rescheduled because the planned start point will not be available.
There will be no club meeting held in November because the meeting date falls on Thanksgiving eve.
Club walk – Skip Probst suggested that a walk through the old railroad tunnel on Snoqualmie Pass might be a good club outing.
Steve Mackey asked that he be informed of changes to YRE walk routes or of planned new routes so he can keep maps up to date.  He was thanked for creating excellent maps for club events.

BREAK FOR THE DRAWING:
$21.00 was collected.  Dorothy Blackmun won the raffle.  She received $ 10.50, and $ 10.50 went into the kitty.
