THE OVER THE HILL GANG VOLKSSPORT CLUB MEETING
March 22nd, 2006
Held at Diamond Jim’s Restaurant, Federal Way, Washington
CALL TO ORDER:
Club President Skip Probst called the meeting to order at 07:00 pm. There were 19 members present.
MINUTES:
The Minutes for February 2006 were approved with the following change. The Juneau Walk will begin May 1st, not May 18.
CORRESPONDENCE:
Notice was received that the YRE at Red Apple Market in Sumner has been moved to the Stafford Suites, A retirement complex, located at 15519 62nd Ct E. in Sumner.
A letter from our sister club, the Mt. Clean VC, in Chilliwack, BC thanking us for the invitation to participate in the Dupont Centennial Celebration Walk.
TREASURERS REPORT:
Ken Grieser reported a bank balance of $3,014.10 as of March 22, 2006
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
KENT YRE: Dixie Inabnit-Walkers to date: 42
DUPONT YRE: Elayne Chambers – Walkers to date: 16, Bike 4
JUNEAU YRE: Seasonal is closed for the season Opens May 18th, 2006.
SALES: Alicia Maxcy reported she has record books and Dupont hatpins available and a few club polo shirts
MEMBERSHIP: Marianne Bastin reported that we have 71 paid members and two honorary members and three lifetime members to date, for a total of 76 members.
SICKNESS & SYMPATHY: Joan Grieser sent sympathy cards to Marilyn Viola and Dauna Perry.
ESVA REPORT:
Carol and Larry are traveling. Skip Probst said he would be attending the ESVA meeting in April 1st. A motion was made and seconded to vote for the slate of ESVA offices. The motion was carried.
The ESVA clubs made a contribution to the Katrina Hurricane Fund totaled $4,000. The Over The Hill Gang donated $500 of this amount.
ELECTION COMMITTEE REPORT:
Committee members are Diane Wagner and Alicia Maxcy. So Far Bill Stewart as said he will run again for vice President.
OLD BUSINESS:
Both workers walk went well. The trail marking was moved up to 10:00am, Friday, March 24th.
Trail checking was to begin at 7:00am on Saturday and Sunday.
Skip said that Bags containing essential equipment would be provided for trail markers and trail checkers Walkie Talkies have been purchased for the walk and set to channel 22.99.
Workers list was passed around for the Registration Table and Finish Table.
Club members were informed that College students presenting insert pages for the Portland Community College are approved by the AVA, and cards can be stamped; all have new walkers packets. The student may walk free and do not need to pay for credit and do not need to pay for credit for a stamp in the college pages. They need to turn ina coupon if walking for IVV credit in addition to the school stamp.
BREAK FOR THE DRAWING:
$33 was collected and Chuck Garrison won the drawing. He received $16.50 and $16.50 went into the club kitty.
MEMBER ACHIEVEMENTS:
A certificate of appreciation was presented to Jack and Alicia Macy for their years in volkssports and a plaque, which will be attached to a bench that will be installed at Dupont.
NEW BUSINESS:
Marilyn Viola should be contacted in regard to signing up to work the Northwest Trek Walk set for June 3rd. An additional person is need to assist Marilyn with arrange time with Chip Heinz for trail marking.
Next year the Northwest Trek walk will be held on June 9th, so that the Evergreen Wanderers will have that date for their anniversary walk. We will return to June 7th being the first Sat in June for 2008.
A motion was moved, seconded and pass that we have our Dupont Walk on the 17th next year (perhaps with a St Patrick’s Day Theme). The start Point will be the gym of Chole Elementary School Two walks and a bike will be sanctioned.
On April 25th a non-AVA tour group would like to walk at Northwest Trek and Chip Heinz has asked our club if they can help out with marking the trail on the 24th and stripping down the trial on the 26th.
