September 28th 2005 Meeting Minutes

THE OVER THE HILL GANG VOLKSSPORT CLUB MEETING

September 28th, 2005

Held at Round Table Pizza, Auburn, Washington

CALL TO ORDER:
Club Vice President Bill Stewart called the meeting toorder at 7:07 pm.  There were 13 members in attendance.

MINUTES:
The Minutes of the March meeting were approved after the following corrections were made:  None noted.

CORRESPONDENCE:
We received a catalog “Walking Vacations 2005”, The Amercan Wanderer, and the AVA Checkpoint newsletter.

TREASURERS REPORT:
Ken Grieser reported a bank balance of $6,658.20.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
KENT YRE: Dixie Inabnit-Walkers to date: 116
FEDERAL WAY YRE: Jack-Walkers to date: 101
DUPONT YRE: Elayne Chambers – Walkers to date: 87, Bike 17
JUNEAU YRE: Walkers to date: 89
SALES:Alicia Maxcy said she had record books available, New Walker Packets, and one Large T-shirt.
MEMBERSHIP:Marianne Bastin reported that we have 66 paid members to date and six Honorary Members.  Life membership was bestowed upon Bill and Marcia Patten.
SICKNESS & SYNPATHY:Joan Grieser  sent cards to Bill and Marcia Patten, Resi McDonald, and Skip Probst.

ESVA REPORT:
Carol Walsh passed out copies of the NW Regional Newsletter. The next meeting will be October 8th.  In the vote for Regional Officers,
Diane Wagner and Bill Stewart received the club vote.

OLD BUSINESS:
The club pizza party will be held next month, Wednesday, October 28th.

Dorothy Blackmun offered to assist Joan Greiser with the planning of the Christmas Party which will be held Sunday, December 11th, at the Des Moines Creek Restaurant.  Dinner at 7:00 pm with a social hour starting at 6:00.

The City of Dupont has given their approval for a bench in honor of Jack Maxcy.  It was suggested that the Girl Scouts man a checkpoint at the 2006 Dupont Walks/Bike and offer water, stamp the Start Cards, and perhaps sell cookies, etc.

The Dupont Girl Scout walk is set for Saturday, October 1st.

A report was given on the results of the Auburn Walk:  Credit walkers – 184, and Free walkers – 108, for a total of 292.  Receipts were $743.50, and profit was $247.00.  It was moved and seconded that the walk be continued on an annual basis.

The Yelm and Aberdeen walks are up and running again, with new Start Boxes installed at each location.

NEW BUSINESS: 
The subject of a club donation to the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund will be brought up at the next meeting.
Bill Stewart is working on new routes for the 2006 Dupont Walk, with possibly more than two walk and bike routes.

MEETING ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 8:12 pm.  Our next meeting will be October 26th.

NOTE:   Since the preparation of these Minutes, it was reported by e-mail to our membership, that long-time member Bill Patten passed away on October 6th.  A memorial service will be held in his memory.  Details are noted below:

Bill created The Over the Hill Gang Volkssport Club logo the we use as well as several event patches and award pins over the years. He and his wife were recently honored with Life Membership for his many years of service to The Over The Hill Gang.  Those of us who knew him remember his friendly nature and fast pace. He will be truly missed.
