THE OVER THE HILL GANG VOLKSSPORT CLUB MEETING
June 15th, 2005
Held at Round Table Pizza, Auburn, Washington
CALL TO ORDER:
Club President Skip Probst called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm. There were 15 members in attendance.
MINUTES:
The Minutes of the May meeting were inadvertently discarded, so there are none for the record.
CORRESPONDENCE:
A letter was received from General Nutrition Corp. (GNC) through AVA offering a 20 percent discount on their product line.
Sue Blade won the New Balance Shoes offered in the drawing at the Northwest Trek Walk and sent a thank you note to the club.
TREASURERS REPORT:
Ken Grieser reported a bank balance of $7,878.49.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
KENT YRE: Dixie Inabnit-Walkers to date: 79
FEDERAL WAY YRE: Jack-Walkers to date: 61
DUPONT YRE: Elayne Chambers – Walkers to date: 44, Bike 5
JUNEAU YRE: Opens May 1st.
*Jack Maxcy further reported that the start point for the Federal Way YRE, the “Coffee Grounds” coffee shop, has closed and that the hairdresser shop next door will be the new start point.
SALES:Alicia Maxcy was not in attendance, so there was no report.
MEMBERSHIP: Marianne Bastin reported that we have 89 members to date. David and Terry Arthur were visitors.
SICKNESS & SYNPATHY: Joan Grieser. It was reported that Bill Stewart recently underwent an operation and is re- covering; a get-well card will be sent to him. Jack Maxcy’s health has been declining and a card will be sent to him also.
ESVA REPORT:
Carol Walsh reported that an ESVA Finance Committee has been been formed, made up of representatives from the various member clubs. Skip Probst of our club is one of committee people. The next meeting of the committee will be June 29 th. There were were discussions regarding the possibility of closing the ESVA state office as a cost-cutting measure. There have been inquiries made about how to make the Pathfinder Magazine more cost-efficient, including the addition of advertisements.
OLD BUSINESS:
Our club-sponsored Auburn Walk will be August 27 th. A proposal was made to no longer call the walk the Jackie Meyers Memorial Walk, but to make the walk non-specific.
The Northwest Trek drew 691 walkers of which several hundred were Girl Scouts.
It was moved/seconded and passed to rescind the original proposal to donate $125 to AVA and to have a new authorization for a donation established and to determine where to send the donation.
BREAK FOR DRAWING:
$14.00 was collected. Ken Grieser won the drawing. He received $7.00 and $7.00 went into the club kitty.
MEMBER ACHIEVEMENTS:
The A-Z City Challenge – None noted.
The NATURE Challenge – None noted.
IVV Awards – None Noted.
NEW BUSINESS:
It was moved, seconded and passed to donate the proceeds of the Northwest Trek Walk to Northwest Trek (the Tacoma Metropolitan Park District).
The Girl Scout walk has been moved to October 1 st.
Larry and Carol Walsh offered their home for a club Wine Tasting Party. The date would be August 6 th, unless a different date was announced.
It was proposed that the annual club Pizza Party be held after the Auburn Walk, on a date in September.
There was a discussion, whereby our club would join in recognizing a prominent member of the Puget Sound walking community by helping to establish the placement of bench in that person’s honor.
MEETING ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 7:54 pm. Our next meeting will be July 27th.
