THE OVER THE HILL GANG VOLKSSPORT CLUB MEETING
March 24th, 2004
Held at Round Table Pizza, Auburn, Washington
CALL TO ORDER:
President Jack Maxcy called the meeting to order at 7:00PM. There were 21 members present. It was announced that we had two new member. Lynn Wilson and her son DuShonn Avery, we welcome you aboard.
MINUTES OF Feb. 2004 MEETING:
Minutes from the Febuary meeting were discussed and approved.
CORRESPONDENCE:
Various brochures and the Atlantic Trail Master.
TREASURERS REPORT:
Ken Grieser reported a check book balance of $5829.10. No outstanding debts.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
KENT YRE: Skip-Walkers to date: 56
FEDERAL WAY YRE: Jack-Walkers to date: 72
DUPONT YRE: Elayne Chambers – Walkers to date: 34, Bike 3
JUNEAU: Jack: Walk starts May 1 st
SALES: Alicia Maxcy delivered club jackets & T- Shirts that had been ordered. She also had IVV Books on hand should anyone need them.
MEMBERSHIP: Marianne Bastin reported we have 88 regular members and two honorary members. A updated membership list has been completed. Copies will be sent to you by e-mail. If you do not receive a copy in the next few weeks please let her know
SICKNESS & SYNPATHY: Joan Grieser informed the members present that Joseph Viola the husband of Marilyn Viola had sadly passed away after a long illness. 10 club members attended the services for “Joe”
BROCHURES: Skip is working on a multi-event brochure for 2005 YRE’s
SOCIAL: Carol Walsh reported on our club picnic scheduled for July 31st. She will prepare a map with directions to the picnic location. The club will pay for the meat. Members attending will be informed on what to bring. This will also be BYOB function. There is a YRE walk located near the picnic area for members who made wish to do a volkswalk prior to the picnic. More information will be furnished at our next meeting in April.

ESVA:
The Northwest Regional Conference will be hosted by our State in Leavenworth. Dates are from July 15th to July 18th. They will also be having their election of state officers at the next meeting in May. Those running for office are President, Eleanor Borgardts, !st Vice President, Joanne McAllister; 2nd Vice President (open) Secretary, Carolyn Warhol; Treasurer: will be Carol Walsh from our club. Fran Carlson will be a candidate for the Area Coordinator for our district.
AVA:
The executive board held their last meeting on March 13th in Sacramento, California. The results of this meeting will be posted on our club website as soon as received. They will also be available in the next edition of the Check Point. Copies will be available for interested members.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
DuPont walks Event set for Saturday, March 27th. Trails have been finalized. Publicity has been going well & several newspapers have already printed information re walk. Workers list is finished and workers will be notified of their assignments. On the day of event please wear either your club jacket or T -Shirt. IVV Stamps have been received and we are all set to go. Trails will be marked this coming Friday.
Northwest Trek, Walk will be held on Saturday, June 5th. Dianne Hall & JP Prizmich will be in charge of this event. Advance publicity for this event has already been sent to various local publications. We also expect a good turn out from the girl scouts.
Auburn Walk , Bob & Betty Hellers will be Trail Masters for this event. Permit has been received from the Auburn Parks Department. Skip Probst will prepare the brochure’s. ( PLEASE SEE NEW BUSINESS )
Girl Scout Walk: This event will be held on Sunday, October 10th. We will use the new Girl Scout Regional Building as our start/finish point.
Additional Social Information: Twenty Eight club members walked our Federal Way Year Around Walk on March 20th. Good turn out!!. Mid-Week walks are going well. If you want to be notified of these events inform Jack.
The Hope walk The tunnel walk in Hope, BC Canada will be held the weekend of September 25tH & 26th. We have meet notified that this will be the last year for this walk. Camping and trailer sites are available at the start point. If you need a motel, call the Quality Inn at 1-800-899-5996. Ask for the walk rate.
CLUB DRAWING: The winner this month was Steve Mackey.
NEW BUSINESS:
CHANGE OF DATE FOR AUBURN WALK: IT WAS MOVED AND SECONDED THAT THE DATE FOR THIS WALK BE CHANGED TO AUGUST 28TH. MOTION CARRIED.
Debbie Connell reported that the following members had agreed to run for club officers at our June meeting. President: Jack Maxcy, Vice President: Skip Probst; Treasurer: Ken Grieser; Secretary: Edith Hamilton. Our thanks to all of you.
It was also agreed by members present that we have weekend walks on dates when no events are scheduled. Dorothy Blackmum has offered to head this program.
