THE OVER THE HILL GANG VOLKSSPORT CLUB MEETING

May 28th, 2003

Held at Round Table Pizza, Auburn, Washington

CALL TO ORDER:
Club President Jack Maxcy called the meeting to order at 7:02pm. There were 20 members present.

MINUTES OF April 23, 2003 MEETING:
Minutes for the April meeting were discussed and approved.

INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS:
New member Tina Ayers was re-introduced. We are glad to have her with us. Also Bob and Ruth Ann Glover are back from their winter respite.

CORRESPONDENCE:
Several brochures were received from various clubs, also another thank you note from NW Trek for our donation to the new Exhibit at the Trek. A copy of The American Wander was given to one of our new members. If you wish to subscribe to Taw, go online to http://ava.org/ and download a membership form.

TREASURERS REPORT:
Ken Grieser: Check Book balance as of May 28th is $5,800 with cash on hand of $67.50, for a total of $5,867.50. The latter coming from club dues and registrations for walks, (YRE’s).

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
KENT YRE: Walkers to date: 86
FEDERAL WAY YRE: Walkers to date: 75
DUPONT YRE: Walkers to date: 59 Bike: 13
JUNEAU: No report until the end of May. One report from those who have done the walk reported that the weather has been awful. Those who have done the walk in the rain know that the bridge is terrible to go across.
SALES: Alicia: Out of town, no report.

NEW EMAIL ADDRESSES: After the meeting on the 28th we received a new email address for two new members to our club. They are Melvin and Shelia Palmer. They have moved here from afar. Their email address is . If you wish to subscribe to walk list, send a blank email to 
SICKNESS AND SYMPATHY: Joan Grieser: She was not feeling well, so we all send her our get-well wishes.

CHECKPOINT:  
June issue: Dean: The AVA Executive Council will meet on Monday, June 23rd at 1:00pm at the DoubleTree Hotel. The AVA Convention meeting sessions will be held Wednesday, Thursday., and Friday, June 25-27, 2003 at the DoubleTree Hotel.
2003 CONVENTION SPECIAL COMMUNITY PROJECT: Donations to the 2003 CSCP, to restore and rehabilitate the Hayman Fire Burn Area of the US National Forest, currently the total is $355.00. Generous support from clubs and individuals in Washington State account for more than 80% of that amount. If you wish to contribute before the Convention, you may send your donation to John Baird, 2325 Twilight Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. Please indicate on you check or money order that the funds are to support the Community Project.
WORKERS WALK CLARIFICATION: The original statement read, “Under no circumstances may persons not working at the event participate in the ‘workers walk’ or receive credit unless they actually complete the trail on the day of the event.” It should actually read, “Under no circumstances may persons not working the event participate in a ‘workers walk.” If you have any questions or would like additional clarification, please feel free to call Jackie at 210-659-2112, or email her at 

ESVA: 
Bob Hellers attended the May 17th meeting in Bellevue and reported the proceedings. Any questions give Bob a call. He reported that the kick-off dates for the Night Walks will be on the 4th of July, and that walk will be at Golden Gardens Park in Ballard at beach level (Shelter #2).

REGIONAL DIRECTOR: 
We received a letter from Jessie Miller stating that he will no longer be RD as of July 1, 2003. Our new RD will be Curt Myron as of July 1, 2003. The ESVA office is in transition so if you need anything please call before you go or you may find no one there. The number there is 253-840-1776.

AVA: 
Shirley tells us that Tim Minor is president for a walk in Washington DC called “A Freedom Fest”. It will be held the 3rd weekend in September. It is a pre-IML event. He has gotten the Surgeon General to sponsor this event. One of the awards coming out of this walk will be to be on the Surgeon General’s honor roll. To do this you will have to have walked 1776 miles, or just under 3000 km, so get busy and tally up your km’s to see how far you have walked.

JP AND DIANNE HALL MOTOR HOME TREK. 
They are in Atlanta as we speak on the 28th of May.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Sanction request has been sent and approved for our 2004 DUPONT EVENT. Dianne Hall’s daughter and son-in-law have offered to do the food if no one from Dupont is interested. Most of the new area is open, new trails and black top walking paths are now available.
NW TREK: Dean Puckett has handed out the workers schedules for our walk on the 7th of June.
AUBURN WALK: Jackie Myres Memorial, set for Saturday October 4th 2003. Bob and Betty Hellers will be in charge. The trail has been wheeled. Date for the workers walk is Saturday the 19th of July at 9am. Directions will be given at our next meeting.
Sanction for JUNEAU WALK in 2004 has been submitted and approved. This completes the paper work for all YRE’s in 2004.
GIRL SCOUT WALK will be held in Dupont on Sunday October 13th
SOCIAL TRAIN TRIP TO CANADA. Jack has picked up vouchers for all those who are going on this trip.
GROUP WALK: There will be an evening walk in Dupont on Wednesday July 23rd at 6pm. The Capitol Volkssport Club will be hosting.

NEW BUSINESS: 
There will be an ESVA meeting on October 4th at the Round Table Pizza in Auburn. Shirley Lindberg will represent our club at that meeting.
DONATION: A donation in the amount of $200 will be given to Shirley Lindberg for her bid for President of the AVA. She was present at our meeting and extended her thanks for the donation. We are thrilled to have her as a member of our club and soon to be President of the AVA.
JUNE MEETING: will be moved up to the 18th because of the Convention in Colorado. Dues are due on that evening. If you can’t make it to the meeting please send your check to Marianne. That is also our Pizza Dinner night. So come with a good appetite.

Please make a note that our June meeting will be on June 18th. It was moved up one week because of the
AVA Convention in Colorado. This will also be our annual pizza party.
