THE OVER THE HILL GANG VOLKSSPORT CLUB MEETING

February 26th, 2003

Held at Round Table Pizza, Auburn, Washington

CALL TO ORDER:
President Jack Maxcy called the meeting to order at 7:03pm. There were 17 members present.

MINUTES OF January 22, 2003 MEETING:
were discussed and approved.

CORRESPONDENCE:
There was a flyer from Curt Myron who is running for Regional Director to replace Jessie Miller. Also a brochure from Canada was received telling us about the Galloping Goose Walk. This is a 32K walk. It will be held on August 16, 2003. Sounds fun.

TREASURERS REPORT:
Ken Grieser: Check Book balance as of 26 February was approximately $5486. He didn’t know of any outstanding debt. There is $124 in cash to be deposited.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
KENT YRE: Skip reporting 44 walkers.
FEDERAL WAY YRE: Jack reports to date 41 walkers
DUPONT YRE: Linda reports 25 walkers and 1 biker
SALES: Alicia: She has new walker packets, T-shirts, and Club Jackets and hat pins for sale. More about the Club Jackets later.
MEMBERSHIP: Marianne: With our one new member that joined tonight,Tina Ayers, we have 77 members and 2 honorary members.
SICKNESS AND SYMPATHY: Joan Grieser reports sending a card of condolence to club member Dauna Perry and her husband for the loss of their Daughter.
SOCIAL: Dianne is in Mexico. She should be back around the middle of March.

CHECKPOINT:  
Dean reports from the February Checkpoint that the deadline for submission of YRE/Seasonal events has been moved to August 1. The rooms blocked at the Convention Hotel, the Double Tree have been filled. You can still stay there, but you will have to pay full rates.
World Walking Day will be held on May 8 each year. From the March Check Point: Please, Please! If circumstances dictate that you need to cancel you room reservations at the 2003 AVA Convention host hotel please contact John Baird, before doing so. He can be reached by telephone at 719-471-2114.
NW Regional Conference will be 7/13-7/18 in Leavenworth. More information to follow
Jack says a big thanks to all trail checkers who assisted at the NW trek walk.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
DuPont Walk, March 22nd. All is going well. Alicia asks to please pre register for the walk so that you don’t have to do it on the day of the walk. The workers walk for walk #2 will be on March 9th at 9am. That would be a good time to take care of business. This in on a Sunday, so please do not park in front of City Hall. This will be the last year for the Park Foundation to do food. The workers list is not completed so you will be notified no later that 2 weeks before the event. Two of our sponsors this year will be State Farm who will be donating the candy and Talking Rain will be donating the water for this walk and our NW Trek walk
NW Trek Walk will be on Saturday June 7th, 2003. This will be a joint walk with the Girl Scouts. The Totem Counsel already has 60 pre registered for the walk. Dean Puckett will be trail master for this walk.
Auburn Walk (Jackie Myers) is set for Saturday October 4 2003. Bob and Betty Hellers will be in charge of this walk.
2003 YRE walks are up and running. Inquires and pre-registrations are starting to arrive for the Juneau walk. The patches have been received. We had great weather and a good turn out for our club walk for the Kent YRE last Sunday, the 16th. Thanks to all who participated. Our train trip to Vancouver, Canada is scheduled for the weekend of October 18th and 19th.

NEW BUSINESS: 
Starting Point books have been handed out.
Train trip idea needs exact dates to get hotel reservations. We will have more discussion at out March meeting. Come with some ideas.
If you are going to Vancouver, WA for the IML event in 2004 it is suggested that you make your hotel reservation ASAP. You must register by March 1 to get a lower rate. Call Jack for the Hotel phone numbers.
Christmas Party 2003: We have 2 small rooms this year. It will be on 14 December. Social Hour will be at 4pm, with dinner at 5pm. It was the consensus of everyone that we will all have the buffet. More information coming.
Telephone number for Quality Inn in Hope is 1-800-899-5996. That is for next Septembers trip to Hope.
As advertised above in the minutes, Alicia has Club Jackets for sale. Skip is going to put pictures on our web page so you can see what they look like. There are two kinds. One is a two toned, blue on black with a vent in front and back with zipper, it will be $23. The other is just blue with snaps, it will be $18. If you want your name put on it that will be $3 extra. They are very nice looking jackets.

Just a reminder that our June meeting which would normally be held on the 25th will be changed to June 18th due to the convention.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:10pm. Our next meeting will be on March 26th, 2003.
